Trianimals: Colour Me Cat: 60 Colour-by-Number Geometric Artworks with Meow by Cetin Can Karaduman
My rating: 5/5 cats
WELCOME TO SEPTEMBER PROJECT!! SEPTEMBER PROJECT IS OVER!!!
i’ve been under the weather so i’m getting a late start on this, but soon there will be cats right here! AND—if you think you will get bored looking at a succession of cat-of-the-day posts, give me suggestions for something to accompany ’em and i will obey because i am one of the GOOD karens.
okay, so in this book, you start with things like these:
and color-by-number them into these:
with the option to use a ‘natural’ or ‘vivid’ color palette.
there are 60 different cat breeds, and the last eight are MASKS. not covid-protecting masks but ‘what would i look like if i were a cat?’ masks.
SEPTEMBER 1: PERSIAN
here’s their ‘natural’
i chose VIVID
i’m probably going to choose vivid more often than not, because some of the natural options involve, like, five different shades of gray and my lifestyle choices have never required a colored pencil arsenal with that kinda nuance, so vivid it is!
SEPTEMBER 2: TOYGER
oooh, so natural
vivid! and also maybe toupeed? what a weirdo.
SEPTEMBER 3: MINUET
this time i decided to go natural, too
and it’s somehow still not the same. is this a color-changing dress phenomenon at work?
SEPTEMBER 4: BENGAL
natural! and blurry!
vivid! dear god, so vivid!! i used markers this time, despite suspecting they’d bleed through to the cat on the reverse side of the page. they did! bad coloring book design! guess i’ll go back to colored pencils like someone who loooooves having carpal tunnel.
SEPTEMBER 5: GINGER
back to pencils for me! i went ‘natural’ again, same as them, but my cat looks totally different again. am i colorblind? do i need better lighting? am i being punked?
SEPTEMBER 6: THAI
look at all these subtle gradations in the natural
me, i go vivid and get some kind of lisa frank nightmare
SEPTEMBER 7: TABBY
what is tabby thinking?
is she thinking the same thoughts as SUPER NEON TABBY?
SEPTEMBER 8: BOMBAY
what does bombay say??
my ‘vivid’ is ready for halloween. tricks and treats and masks and widening covid hot spots
SEPTEMBER 9: KHAO MANEE
seriously, who has this many different gray pencils? if i did it their way it would be one big smudge
instead of this demonic fruit cocktail kitty
SEPTEMBER 10: SOMALI
okay, well, theirs is a much nicer picture
but if i owned a cat lookin’ like this, i’d be an instagram sensation!
SEPTEMBER 11: TURKISH ANGORA
she’s got those ‘come hither’ eyes
mine’s eyes are straight bonkers
SEPTEMBER 12: DONSKOY
ugh, THESE things.
mine looks less…sticky, but those EYES are so haunting.
SEPTEMBER 13: MUNCHKIN
grrrrr
grrrr, but fabulous
and while we’re all here, i want to give you an example of what some of the “natural” color palettes look like:
are my eyes broken or are these three of the same grays and two matching greens?
SEPTEMBER 14: MANX
look at this smug boi
he’s playing all cool cuz his butt’s not in the picture so no one can make fun of him for not having a tail.
SEPTEMBER 15: LAPERM
okay, we all know there’s no such thing as an ugly cat,
but no one told the person who designed this one.
SEPTEMBER 16: JAPANESE BOBTAIL
BELLS ON BOBTAILS RIIIIIIIIIING
MAKING SPIRITS BRIIIIIIIGHT
SEPTEMBER 17: BRITISH SHORTHAIR
theirs is an uncouth belcher
mine is a folk horror nightmare with marshplant whiskers and the ability to set you afire with only a thought. mind the gap.
SEPTEMBER 18: AMERICAN BOBTAIL
you guys, this one is a CENTERFOLD
hubba hubba someone tweet this to j geils HAPPY WEEKEND EVERYBODY!!
SEPTEMBER 19: ABYSSINIAN
inquisitive!!
inquisitive with no sense of color-blocking
SEPTEMBER 20: AMERICAN SHORTHAIR
theirs looks trustworthy
mine looks like he’s been following the dead a little too long. that’s the GRATEFUL dead, kids.
SEPTEMBER 21: SINGAPURA
i would like this cat, please. singapurrrrrrrra, don’t ask no questions, singapurrrrrrrra, don’t tell no lies
i like how much empty space there is except for those EYES
and before you make fun of me for missing some triangles, you can clearly see there’s no number in this one, even though it makes the cat all asymmetrical
SEPTEMBER 22: DEVON REX
this cat is frightened
and this is what she’s frightened of
SEPTEMBER 23: CHARTREUX
another centerfoooold!
this time i used the ‘natural’ palette and yet it looks very different from theirs, using the same colors. does covid cause colorblindness?
SEPTEMBER 24: LYKOI
awww this is one of those werewolf cats! i love them!
this, though, YEESH. vivid palette, you have failed me! you have failed us all!
SEPTEMBER 25: CHAUSIE
now they’re just making up cat breeds. this one’s got the saddest eyes
cuz he knows what’s gonna happen when i get my colored pencils on him
SEPTEMBER 26: HIGHLANDER
oh no!! a highlander! there can only be one!
and yet here there are two! which will be beheaded? i used the ‘natural’ colors this time, to try to thwart my opponent with camouflage. that makes no sense. i’m tired from work, gbyeeeeeee
SEPTEMBER 27: PIXIE-BOB
bfd, right? but WAIT! this one’s gonna get better—watch this space!
thanks for waiting. this one was one of the MASKS! so i gouged out its eyes and put its face on my own face
and now i’m ready for halloween or a home invasion! and since halloween has been covid-cancelled, watch out, homeowners!
SEPTEMBER 28: CYMRIC
cute
cuter
cutest!!
late posting this because i was depleted by last night’s “debate.”
SEPTEMBER 29: BALINESE
blank triangle/bald spots are [sic]
how do you like your crosseyed girl
Missus Cat
ONLY ONE MORE TO GO!
DRUMROLL PLEASE!
SEPTEMBER 30: BURMILLA
AU NATUREL
ET VIF
so MEOW to the right
and MEOW to the left
and MEOW MEOW MEOW allll the way home!
and that was 30 of the 60 cats in this book! before we leave, let me just say i ♥ the inside covers of this book:
