THE CREEPS – FRAN KRAUSE

The CreepsThe Creeps by Fran Krause
My rating: 5/5 cats

more wonderfully weird fears, illustrated. and those are particularly great airborn eyeballs, right?

i reviewed the first volume of this over here (linked in case you wanna look at the pictures), and this second book is more of the same, in the best way possible.

to catalog my favorites:

these win for spoooookiness; little illustrated flash fiction nuggets of terror:

while sometimes parents are the real monsters:

if you know me, or you know birds, you understand that this is a perfectly legitimate fear:

but make no mistakethose birds will know exactly what they’re doing. and they know that fresh meat is tastier than stale bread.

coming to getcha!!!

this one falls under the headline, “I KNOW, RIGHT??”

while these collectively make up “THINGS I WILL NOW WORRY ABOUT, SO THANKS A LOT, BOOK!”

and these are things i would start worrying about, but fortunately i do not drive:

or wear contacts:

so that’s two horrific bullets, dodged.

and although i know it’s rude to laugh at someone else’s fear, this one is pretty hilarious

now that all those scary fears are out of the way, i wanted to make a note about how much i like these drawings, especially how perfectly he captures the valiant struggle on both sides in “fending off a cat from food,” and that feline pause that happens while they hang there, calculating their next attempt.

very cute and very real and not at all scary.

but that’s no way to end a review of a book about fears, even if some of them are humorous! instead, i will leave you with this:

and if you don’t hear from me for a while, well….

this feels gauche, but when i announced i was starting a blog, everyone assured me this is a thing that is done. i’m not on facebook, i’ve never had a cellphone or listened to a podcast; so many common experiences of modern life are foreign to me, but i’m certainly struggling financially, so if this is how the world works now, i’d be foolish to pass it up. any support will be received with equal parts gratitude and bewilderment.
