grrrrr – nature’s fierce determination!!!

welcome to the seething mass of contradictions that is me!! i just had my heart broken after reading Call of the Cats: What I Learned about Life and Love from a Feral Colony because the idea of raccoons eating cats was too unfair to accept. cute should never devour cute! and yet, this book is wholly composed of cute devouring cute, and i’m completely on board. enough to forgive the kitty-munching raccoon, seen here making better choices:

i’m not being more lenient this time on the grounds that birds are asking for it, because although many birds do get eaten here:

i also support all the cutie-mammals getting nommed:

it helps to realize just how happy these creatures are to be fulfilling their role in the predator/prey interaction:

i live to nourish others! for the glory of shark week!

there are 30 different meals on the menu, listed in the appendix alongside greg’s favorite picture:

but it’s not always clear who’s winning:

and who’s just waiting in the wings for one giant meal. bluebird of greediness:

each adorable attack is accompanied by a quote or passage, usually focused on the majesty of the predator in the relationship. however, there are exceptions, including this one that shows that benjamin franklin sure knew what was what:

”For my own part, I wish the bald eagle had not been chosen the representative of our country. He is a bird of bad moral character. He does not get his living honestly.”

leaving aside the redundancy of “a bird of bad moral character,” this may be a comfort to those of you questioning that which currently represents our country.

benjamin franklin promises it gets better.

wolf promises nothing.

this feels gauche, but when i announced i was starting a blog, everyone assured me this is a thing that is done. i’m not on facebook, i’ve never had a cellphone or listened to a podcast; so many common experiences of modern life are foreign to me, but i’m certainly struggling financially, so if this is how the world works now, i’d be foolish to pass it up. any support will be received with equal parts gratitude and bewilderment.
