Who Did It?: Who Farted? Who Burped? Who Pooped? Who Peed? Who Sneezed? by Ohara Hale
My rating: 5/5 cats
this is some crazy richard-scarry-on-acid shit right here.
this is a boxed set of five tiny board books containing the following titles:
Who Sneezed?
Who Burped?
Who Farted?
Who Peed?
Who Pooped?
in each of them, a bunch of adorable, vaguely terrifying creatures all-caps shout at the reader about various bodily functions. there is something very triumphant about these books, as the creatures gleefully own all the unavoidable things the body does that are generally uncelebrated in polite company and shamelessly crow about their experiences.
i think it is wonderful that the body’s little jokes are acknowledged so openly and delightedly, while still addressing the more sober social niceties that correspond to each eruption:
while still allowing for the fact that these things are incredibly funny to a child or a certain kind of grown-up (ahem)
i mean, “fart rocket to the moon??” it’s genius.
and there is an element of education to it all, as the books shouty-teach why these things happen to us all:
as well as some good advice
but mostly it is about two things – learning that these things, while occasionally unexpected, are completely natural and nothing to be ashamed of:
and just sheer giggly enjoyment because – come on – there’s nothing funnier than a bird peeing on a dog’s head.
says one of those overgrown children.
amazing books. you will pee with laughter. be sure to tell an adult.
