If My Dogs Were a Pair of Middle-Aged Men by Matthew Inman
My rating: 3/5 cats
this book is 31 pages long and has 13 “jokes” in it – either single-panel gags or longer sequences, all variations on the popular post-bong-hit ruminative theme of “what if dogs were people?”
at this length, it’s basically a pamphlet, but between my compulsive need to review all the books i read, no matter how brief that reading experience is, and the fact that it is just too damn hot today to expect the brain to review any of those big-city books with words in ’em, this is where we are.
it’s a fun little snack of a book, and i’ve enjoyed the premise before, most recently in Manfried the Man, a similar-but-feline take on the concept – tiny nude humans doing catlike things, while human-sized cats wear clothes and experience dissatisfaction in their jobs and interpersonal relationships.
this one has the potential to be funnier, but even though it is cute and goofy, it is – again – only 31 pages, and not every one of those 13 jokes hits its mark, so i think 3 stars cats is about right. you want more stars cats, book? be longer next time! because when you are funny, you are very funny, indeed!
further insights are impossible due to brainial meltdown.
