Dog Years 3: Return To Moreau Labs by Thom Brannan, D.L. Snell
My rating: 4/5 cats
candy!!!
it is halloween!! so, while i am “supposed” to be writing my review of the tender coming of age/pentecostal road trip book, i think it is more appropriate to review this one because it is the last novella (as of now) in the pavlov’s dogs series and it is all raaaarrrrrrr zombie werewolf battle royale mania
plus!! this one has extra-special monsters in it, some permutations of which have made appearances elsewhere, but they got some pretty good action in this one. i would love more of these monsters in future novellas/novels, please. i think what i like best about this series is the novelty of werewolves fighting zombies, and when they also get to fight a remainder-bin of assorted additional monsters, well, that just sweetens the monster melting pot.
monsters and gore and torture and trickery and blood and cruelty and gRunts, and missions that turn into something else, and mini-cyclotrons, and SO MANY CLAWS and preserved women aka the creepiest benetton ad ever
although there are some runners-up
and orangutans and the power of suggestion and gills and did i already say blood?? well, there’s a lot—best to say it twice. and all of this story occurs concurrently with the action taking place in the original pavlov’s dogs, so it is like a circle has been closed—you follow a trail of novellas to get right back where you started, ta-DAAAAAAA!!
and that’s as much review as i can handle tonight—there is like A WHOLE BOWL OF CANDY over there that is screaming “don’t let the kids get us!!”
and i am going to have to obey…
