this book has nothing to do with lord byron. i mean, i didn’t think it was going to be a literary biography or anything—i can see that that is a cat, thank you very much. but i thought it was at least going to be the story of a cat that went on byronesque adventures or wrote cat poetry or mated with a lot of girl-cats, maybe even one from his own litter…

but it’s not. this cat is just named lord byron, for whatever reason.

and this book is exactly why god created vanity presses.

where else could someone produce, for sale, a book of 23 pages that’s just amateur photography of their pet cat?? keeping in mind that their pet cat is not a hero cat, or a show cat, or any kind of unusual cat. just a chubby black-and-white furball of a cat who likes to hang out on the beach and nap in sunbeams and play with some dogs once in a while.

it’s pretty adorable, and i applaud the impulse that makes people document these little personal stories and offer them to the world. even when they are not actually about byron, what a wonderful thing!

a special thank you to greg, for responding to my “buy for me thanks” shelf and picking this up for me. you are a wonderful friend and i will make you several lemon bars.

this feels gauche, but when i announced i was starting a blog, everyone assured me this is a thing that is done. i’m not on facebook, i’ve never had a cellphone or listened to a podcast; so many common experiences of modern life are foreign to me, but i’m certainly struggling financially, so if this is how the world works now, i’d be foolish to pass it up. any support will be received with equal parts gratitude and bewilderment.
