I’m Not Scared! by Jonathan Allen
My rating: 3/5 cats
i don’t think i really understand this book. it seems to be teaching children that people are going to be annoying throughout your life and there’s really nothing you can do about it. which is an important one, as far as lessons go, but i think the author had a different goal; i just think it ended up being less effective than he thought it would be.
so there is this baby owl, and i’m pretty sure owls are nocturnal, and he’s just strolling through the woods one night with his stuffed owl, minding his own business, and all these other animals keep popping out of the woods at him and saying “don’t be scared!!” and baby owl is like—”no i’m just walking here, dude,” and then more animals pop out and say—”it’s late you should be in bed—don’t be scared…” “i’m fine—just having a little walk…” like when that owl grows up he’s not going to go back and eat that badger right off the bat. he never seems scared, except on the cover drawing, where he looks a little shaken but its probably because all these stupid animals can’t mind their own business and keep jumping out from behind bushes to tell him how he is feeling, like people who are in school for psychology and suddenly know everything about people’s undiagnosed mental disorders. leave the owl alone, go back to your dens, let him have his stroll uninterrupted. jeez.
3 stars cats cuz the drawings are cute.
