i swear, they should rename that ground-floor table “books that are stupid but make karen laugh.” because it doesn’t take much. just knowing there is a town called “penistone” makes me grin a little. then i see a street named “knob lick” and the grin gets a little wider. “horton cum studley” is too ridiculous for me to laugh at but then…then…”rampant horse street.” why??? why did i have to grow up on “railroad street” and “sunset drive”?? how prosaic. someday i shall live on “hussey’s lane” and make up for lost time…

this feels gauche, but when i announced i was starting a blog, everyone assured me this is a thing that is done. i’m not on facebook, i’ve never had a cellphone or listened to a podcast; so many common experiences of modern life are foreign to me, but i’m certainly struggling financially, so if this is how the world works now, i’d be foolish to pass it up. any support will be received with equal parts gratitude and bewilderment.
