okay, so – yeah – another book with pictures of animals and humorous comments! i know, i know, i am part of the problem. but look at these owls!! and it is the perfect companion book to Owl Puke: Book and Owl Pellet, right? they should be sold together at owl retailers everywhere.

and as one of “those” books, it is definitely more ambitious than most. it isn’t just a collection of snarky one-liners. there is some of that, coupled with photographs of truly hung-over looking owls. but also, there are short stories written by the owls themselves about their drunken highs and their morning-after lows. some are better than others, obviously, but they are at least good for a chuckle. and there are pieces of advice throughout:

-Puke away, not down. There’s just more of you down.

-If your drink tastes like candy, you’re gonna meet strangers

-If the drink name rhymes, you’re not making it home tonight

-Any drunk is too drunk to ride them interwebz

etc. i mean – it is silly humor, but look at those owls!!

they are so hung over! nature’s keenest murderers, brought to their knees by their love of alcohol!and i don’t even think owls HAVE knees! and we have all been there – morning after regrets, the betrayal of the body, the confusion and piecing together of lost hours:

The parts of me that have bruises are the parts of me that I shouldn’t have been using. I am alarmed.

amen, owl.

come on, you know you want to laugh.

and of course there is a website, this is the nineties: http://hungoverowls.tumblr.com/

this feels gauche, but when i announced i was starting a blog, everyone assured me this is a thing that is done. i’m not on facebook, i’ve never had a cellphone or listened to a podcast; so many common experiences of modern life are foreign to me, but i’m certainly struggling financially, so if this is how the world works now, i’d be foolish to pass it up. any support will be received with equal parts gratitude and bewilderment.
